Mikes 60th Birthday

Last week it was dads friend, Mikes, 60th birthday.
To celebrate he held a big party at the Rasoi , which is a lovely a la carte indian restaurant.

Of course we all started the evening with loads of poperdoms and gorgeous dip trays.
For starters I had Tilkajingha - which is marinated king prawns coated with black and white sesame seeds. It was outstanding! The king prawns are huge and the best I have had in the UK.
For mains I had Ajwani Fish Tika - which is Monk Fish marinated in garlic and carom seeds - It was stunning! You can't beat a good piece of monk fish!
To accompany the monk fish, I had fresh aubergine marsala and rice.

For desserts, I had the Shirikhand Cheesecake with mixed fruit berries and a tamarind glaze - one of the best cheesecakes ever! It's so unusually, due to a softer texture (almost like thick greek yogurt).

As part of my present to Mike, I made him his favourite cake that I make - my Ginger Rich Fruit Cake. Imagine a dense fruit cake, with the moistness from a boiled cake and the spice from 3 different types of ginger, topped with a layer of marzipan and royal icing.

It went down a storm, everyone loved it, including the birthday boy.

I had so many complements on how moist my cake was and how delicious it was! I was so pleased :)
